The Untaught Scholar
Supatra Sen

She was ‘untaught’ and she an erudite
She never went to school and she had all the degrees
She was a bucolic and she a sophisticate
And so were they in perfect harmony.
The scholar once decided that she must be taught
Taught the letters, the ways of life
Together began their journey
To the world of print and words

Long hours of discussion
Study and scrutiny
Of search and research
Till one day the untamed asked “What good will all this come to?”
The learned spoke of theories and applications,
Of value and worth, of honour and esteem
The list was endless…
And then the ‘untaught’ answered her own question
“So that our fight continues
My struggle…our struggle”
And so their battle rages on…
